In terms of peaking or performing at your very highest level in the sport of wrestling, one should be very familar and understanding of the periodation model in training athletes. When I prepare my athletes for a big time wrestling event (National Duals, National tournament, etc.) the wrestling activities are generally at it's highest level. "The Peaking Process" by Kerry McCoy 2008 Olympic Coach

The peaking process is year long. We train with the end in mind and work back. Its a total system. We look at it in three phases. Technical, Training, Tapering. The phases are cycled based on the entire season, each semester, each month, each week. Basically each cycle incorporates a technical phase, a training phase and a taper phase. Breaking Your Opponent

I think that one of the most important things in wrestling is something that can't be taught. The will to break your opponent. Some people have the misconception that when you break someone in a match that they are out of shape, or just a lesser opponent. This is not true.
